The ER2XR takes the same tuning and gives it extra low bass response. The result is a more musical, less tool-like, presentation. WebI have ER2SE and used to like it a lot. I think it does exceptionally well in the clarity of the mid-range, so if that's what you are looking for, then it is a great deal. Isolation is also a plus point. Still, IMHO, mid-range clarity is not end-all-be-all.
